2013 Taco Auto Trany fill plug is stuck. The last person to wrench on it must have begun stripping the 24 mm hex bolt head. My attempt to loosen it with a 24 mm socket just slips. A 23 mm socket is still too small to fit onto the fill plug. This fill plug is up in the truck so reaching a hammer or torch up to the fill plug would be tricky, but perhaps doable. Does anyone have experience using a chisel or other techniques to unstuck the transmission fill plug? Is there parts that can be taken off the truck to get better access to the fill plug? What type of chisel would I need? After this a new transmission fill plug will be needed. Do ya'll have a link or parts #? -Thanks ladies & gentlemen.

You can take off the Y pipe and bend the catalytic converter heat shield out of the way to get a little better access. The heat shield is the most pain when accessing that area.

Also, what about an extractor socket? You can try a 24mm or try the 23mm if you're at that point.

I'd watch adding a lot of heat if you went that route, there's an o-ring on the plug.

Good luck, I hate stuck stuff!

Buy a new drain plug and gasket first. Buy the biggest Vise-Grips you can. Drive around in low gear to warm up the transmission (if you have not already drained it). Let the exhaust cool to a safe level. Apply some penetrating oil. Grab the plug firmly with the Vise Grips, and tap on the handles to loosen.

Most sockets are beveled; grind it down to give you an extra mm of contact surface area. I did this to an extra 15/16" socket I had lying about; it also fits the fill plug on our Lexus. Plus, 15/16ths is 23.8125 mm.

From this parts list I'm unsure which part # is a fill plug for my
    '13 v6 5At 4x4 Taco Base double cab.

    My best guesses are the
    PLUG, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE (90341-A0001),

PLUG (FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL PAN)(90341-10021),

PLUG (FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE) (90341-14011), or

    PLUG SUB-ASSY, DRAIN (ATM) (90341-10011).
The dealership recommended I get the last option- a drain plug because they suspect it has the same threads & same o-ring as the fill plug.

Thank you for all of your input so far. Will know more after I climb under her again with a replacement plug for the stripped fill plug.
