during my last auto premium document package I was informed that the insurance company is no longer going to provide comprehensive insurance for a few of my vehicles, the Tacoma being one of them. They gave an explanation that because the state of california says that they dont have to offer it, they wont. Any one one the site know anything more about this?

I drive what I drive by choice... older vehicles, late 90's to mid 2000's. Easier to fix and they fit my workstyle better than a new, afraid to scratch or haul stuff truck.

Weird. It doesn't cost them anything to offer it, because comp is an option you buy anyway. It's not required anywhere I know of; a vehicle being financed being a possible exception (and that would be a lender requirement)

Sometimes comp on older vehicles doesn't make financial sense. I forget the guideline, but something like if the vehicle is only worth 4x the cost of comp, roll the dice and do without; if something happens pay out of pocket. While I've done that on old cars my kids rolled in, its still an owners choice, financially right or wrong.

Do you have an agent to speak with? Or is this one of those on line /call center only outfits? If you have an agent, I'd be validating the situation with them.

And if you really want/need comp, start shopping. I've found there is value in shopping every year. 1) it assures you you're doing as well as you can 2) about every 3-4 years I find a deal enough better that I change companies.

Always through an independent agent that reps at least 5 companies.

Currently I've found AAA is the best for me. They are an independent agent and they also are an insurer.

I work with insurance on a daily basis but only PA.. Strange your co would all of a sudden quit offering you that coverage especially since it would affect your premium and x co would make more $.. Check with other carriers your state is letting them pull this move or it would've never happened.
