    I have had this problem OP. Took truck down gravel road...springs squeaking and dealer says to fix it they will charge me. I asked why they said because I took it off-road. I said wtf it’s a 4x4 TRD off road. He laughed and said it’s marketing.

    A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    You'd overload the stock springs way before causing a problem with the hitch/extension, assuming you are laying material from the front of the bed all the way back. The cross bar is around 9' back, so you have 6' of bed + tailgate before hitting the bar.

    Good for controlling modest loads of 10' &12' lumber/pipe, big extension ladders, kayaks, etc.

    But agree, not realistic for an everyday working position hauling 4" cast iron pipe. :D
