Fly Fishing BS thread

Im going to just have a steel leader at the end, then my "lure"

 

I wouldn't recommend a typical steel leader....it'll be too stiff/heavy and your fly won't turn over properly.

 

Here's a good idea of a decent Pike fly selection. Again...I'd buy at a local fly shop with you backing, line, etc.

I was thinking having a float ball also, the streamers go under water so shouldnt be a problem.

With a steel leader, you won't be able to fly cast. You can still jig near you and have fun fighting and landing them.

With pike fishing, you need a steel leader. It's still fun with a fly rod, but you just won't get the distance of a spinning rig. With that said, fly fishing is less about casting than most picture. It's more about getting the lure in the water quickly... At least it is to me.

 

I've not seen a leader twisted like that. I've seen only this type.

He’s gonna have to cast the weight of the terminal tackle rather than the weight of the line on this one lol
In other words, further emphasize the “pause” between forward and back strokes to allow more time for the rig to straighten out.

I'm guessing that the pike fishing will be from a boat?

No problem, it will make it easier.

The "chuck and duck" method works great for this type of fishing. I use it exclusively for my salmon fishing.

You can load extra weight on your leader to get the fly to sink. This is an example were cheap fly line is just fine.

I'd recommend these. Much easier to change flies and less chance for a mess with all that twisted stuff.

I flipped the gear around to make it spool for Left handed, even though I cast right handed...I know Im weird...
