This is my first year with a Tacoma Sr5 4x4 in the Michigan winter. I'm really am impressed with this truck. She's like a tank in 4x4. The trucks I had before where terrible. Currently use Falken wildpeak 17" tires, not sure if that's an advantage, but they seem to grip well in the snow. Where I work, there is are parking spot that get's snow partially plowed into part of it so nobody can really park there. So I take it. Truck is parked on an angle higher than everything in the lot, it's kinda funny.

How have your Tacoma's fared in the winter?

Mines been a beast so far in the few storms we’ve had here in NE PA. Put it in 4wd and kick back , the truck says :brianr: to the snow. The last storm the wife and I took it out looking for the worst roads we could find, the ones that were drifted over and the truck handled everything we threw at it like a boss . Took it through a soy field snow wheelin

7 Winters under my belt with my 2011 and it's great in the snow. Good tires, a cap for weight and of course proper driving all help.

My first winter with my used taco. I’ve only used 4 wheel drive twice so far...once to back out of a long driveway in Muskegon a week ago (8 inches of snow), and once in my office lot before it was plowed.

That’s it. I’m running slightly smaller than stock light truck Michelin X-ice 2’s though. Lots of long distance traveling. The AT’s go back on as soon as it’s above 40 on the regular.

Edit to add: I agree that it’s the best truck I’ve ever used in the snow. I’m willing to bet it’s more to do with the tires than anything else though. I never rotated them out for winter tires on the full size trucks I’ve had before. Always on the cars though. Such a cheap investment for a huge performance upgrade.

Being in Virginia, our winter is mild compared to other parts of the country. In the couple storms we've had so far my '15 Sport hasn't skipped a beat. I'm running the Cooper AT3s, and as soon as I throw it in 4x4 it'll tackle anything.

Came from a ram 2500 longbed to the 2015 tacoma, and couldn't be any more pleased in my first winter with it!

I snowplow for work and have to leave at all hours of the night when roads are untouched, and have had zero problems in 4x4 on stock AT tires.

Where are you in Va? I agree about the trucks though. I have the Cooper ST MAXX tires and put it in 4wd and it just goes

Been through 4 winters with my Taco ( '10 V6 MT ACLB), and it loses traction all the time... when I am out drifting on purpose!
When I turn it over to 4x4 I never had any issues. I have gotten stuck in some scenarios on purpose, but a little finesse and I can free myself with no need to worry or get someone to haul me out.

Mark, what are you using for tires? I think you have said in another thread but I am too lazy to go search for it. :anonymous:

Love em! Perfect blend of on road/off road and winter performance. I replace every three years (September) so I go into hunting season & winter with good tread depth. I only put about 45K miles on them in that 3 year period. I've always been able to sell my old set for a decent price.

They're like my German Shorthaired Pointer (versatile breed). They don't excel at one thing, but they're very good at many things!

I had ordered them from Tread Depot ( free shipping), but I don't think that site exists anymore. I'll put on another set in Sept 2019.
