1995 v-6 4x4 MT ex cab. When I bought the truck I was the only driver/occupant 98% of the time. Not having a passenger air bag did not seem to be an issue. Now my wife & I are doing some off road 4 wheeling trips so I have a passenger alot more often. So my question is: how possible/hard/expensive would it be to install a passenger side air bag? TIA, Stan

I've never heard of this being done before, and I'd imagine it would be pretty complicated/expensive... the dash in the 95-97's are different as they weren't made for passenger airbags, so it's not as simple as just adding one into the spot where they go on the newer trucks... so you'd likely need to swap parts of the dash to even make it fit. But maybe with a dash swap it would be possible.

Hopefully someone who knows what they're talking about can chime in.

I have a feeling you would need to rewrite the entire dash/interior harness of truck or even the ENTIRE truck and replace ECU's. First of all 1995-1997 had a cable driven instrument cluster so you'd have to convert that if you swapped to a 1998-2000 dash with the digital one. The center Control stack is completely different. The airbag has its own set of sensors and its own computer as well.

Maybe you can chime in @mechanicjon?

this might not answer your question directly but it might give you something else to think about. Obviously you want to be protected if you stuff it into a ditch, put it on its side etc. A better seat will give you "options" on belts and mounting. It should be cheaper that a full on air bag conversion. The major issue with off road suspension seats is that once you are in and strapped up, you aint moving around the cabin. If it isnt within arms reach it might as well be in the bed of the truck.
    just my .02 worth

I was getting ready to recommend a set of Ride Rite air bags. Adjustable as well.;)
