auto-off headlights or not?

Got a '03 tacoma sr5 fully loaded. When i leave on my lights and open the door, it does not buzz (or make any noise) like my old '96 did. However, if I leave the lights on they still don't shut off. I read that it should have auto-off lights but how do they work?

 

I think auto-off is on second gen only. With mine whenever I don't have the key in ignition, it turns off the lights automatically when I open the driverside door.

 

The light auto turn-off feature arrived with the 2001 model year. If, while the lights are on, you turn the ignition off and then open the driver side door, the auto turn-off feature should kill the lights.

 

I figured out that the door ajar switch was jammed, which was causing it to not register. You are correct, now that the door switch works it works fine.

 

i hate the buzzer on the fords....just saying

 

And the old chevy trucks that have the buzzer that stays on for like 5 secs after you start the truck
