    Recently purchased 17' tacoma w/jbl.

Having issues tuning to sound it's best. Currently, all the bass comes through the front speakers. Sounds awful and sounds like the speakers are not handling the amount of power that is being sent to them. The only way I can get the subwoofer to pic up the sub bass is to fade all the way back to rear seats, then I loose some of the highs out of my fronts and tweeters.

Anyone find a way to fix this? I stopped at the dealer, and we checked a few other trucks on their lot and same thing! I need the sub bass to go to the sub and mid and highs up front

Sorry bud, sounds like you and I are both in the same boat. So TOYOTA decided to set up the sound system so that only low frequencies not mids not highs, but only lows are played from the front doors speakers. I found this out after buying new speakers and tearing my doors down then ending up having to put old ones back in. Im sure you can rewire to make it work I thought about it but then said fuck it. I ll just try and blow out the jbl stock stuff. Ha.

So, I ended up replacing the door 6x9 with 2.3 ohm 2-way jbl aftermarket speakers. I then dynmatted the inner door behind the door panel. This solved 70 percent of the issues. Still had some door rattle after these changes. I then removed the door panel again, and dynamatted the door panel as well. All three of these helped tremendously. Even though its a shame I had to invest another $200 to get this stock system sounding well enough to enjoy.
The main original issue, was the door panels rattling on every sound the stock speakers produced.

Just worked on a 15 tundra with the JBL system it had the same issue. But the tundra has speakers in the dash that help a little. We put the "drop In" Focals in the front and rear doors, it seemed to help. But overall its just a shitty designed system.

sound wise was what I meant, but I'd be interested in your thoughts on the installation if you did it yourself.

The Customer was my boss's friend, he said it sounded better. I didn't really listen to them enough to judge them. Personally I wouldn't drop the $300 on a pair, especially using the factory system whether its JBL or not. If you're spending that kind of money, you should be amplifying them with a non oem amplifier.

They're probably the 2nd easiest speakers to install, right behind 5x7/6x8 speakers on fords . They "drop in" to numerous toyotas, so they come with extra connectors and tweeter brackets you might not end up needing.
