Do you know what diff fluid they used? A few others that have had their rear diff replaced due to the howl had 75w-140 on their repair sheets. Toyota manual calls for 75w-85 so I am curious if they are trying 75w-140 to help with the noise.

I think there is a TSB that has them drain the fluid and measure the amount, if it' below a certain level they are supposed to swap out the rear. My rear diff has been weeping also, need to let them check it during my 10k service.

That's good to know. I didn't get all that. My rear diff area still looked new with black paint still, so a visual examination probably would not catch the seeping slow type of leak. I have very little faith that they did more than a quick visual exam and a wrench turn.

Yeah, this sounds like the way to go. Thanks for the info because it does help to see all the stuff they should be doing.

I took my SR5 4x4 in for 10k Service. Told them I was on the rear diff recall list, but mine was clean with no visible weeping i could see. They replaced gasket and new gear oil..

Going up my driveway (20 degree or more incline) half way up i wanted to turn a little to adjust my parking and it made a weird noise rolled back and the traction light came on, i have a 17 OR is this something i should be worried about or is this a bit normal? I bought the truck yesterday and opted for the 7 years bumper to bumper so i just want to know if i should just pull it in to the dealer?

Normal. Vehicles don't like going backwards in forward gears and freak out. Fear not.

Mine does it in the driveway if I time it right. It also does it when going up a hill on a little trail I like. I get off the gas to let the front wheels clear a 1 foot rock step as we climb up the hill. I have dents on the skid plate from the first time I went up and didn't ease off the step. anyway, the step is on an incline so if I let up on the gas too soon and it notices a backward slip the ECS kicks in.

Our car does it as well. I've used it as a simple hack to get old break fluid out of the ABS system during flush. Flush what I can, get the abs to kick in on the incline and flush the system with new fluid, then do another small flush. It's a work around to having to set my car up to the laptop to flush the abs. saves about 10 minutes. I'll probably do the same this spring when it's time to flush the taco's breaks.

It’s normal, mine is the same model as yours and does the same thing. It’s a pain because sometimes I’d let my Gen 1 roll back in D or 4hi a bit to retry a bad spot on hills I was climbing, or an icy spot I was crossing, and it would let me, this truck won’t unless I shift to reverse. Has to do with the traction control.
