This is my first post here. My third Toyota pickup! I had an 84 loooong bed sure do miss that bed, a 98 extra cab, and now an 04 Double Cab! The V6 is nice, both the others were 4 bangers, and this is my first AT and I really think I'm going to like it! All 4x4s naturally, mostly daily driven but occasional trips to Death Valley, Sequoia and others.

This 04 has lots of little problems so there will be a period of tinkering and fixing, and then maybe some mild mods for easy to moderate off-road capability.

Should I bother to start a build thread? I'm not sure how much build there is going to be?
    Thanks!

    Welcome!

You can start a build thread anytime. A lot of people have build threads just to keep up with maintenance. I have yet to start one, because I haven’t really done much to my truck.

Whatever you choose to do, enjoy the site. There is a TON of good info and shenanigans here!

Thanks! I've been lurking and reading a TON! Some GREAT 1st gen build threads, wish I had that much time and money to throw at this thing and go "camping". The little lady doesn't like wheeling but loves to camp. :D

They (pretend they) still make tacomas... now where's the flameproof suit emoji? :boink: :crapstorm:
I actually NEED the smaller trucks, partially for my 1920s urban driveway (less than 75" wide at the pinch point).

Ok, so I might as well put a question in here, and see if I really need a "build thread".

The wheels, have a center cover ( where I used to have my manual locking hubs on previous two trucks. ).
They are steel, with plastic caps on the ends. Two or three of the wheels have axial cracks in the steel parts.

I've been looking for replacements, JEGS shows the plastic bits but those are fine. What are those steel parts called?
It's like a "hub center" or something like that, easier to search if you know the part name. :)
Thanks, and thanks for the warm welcome here!

    Day job vs...
    Two ton vs three ton...
    Now THAT's an offroad vehicle!
Should we start a caption contest?
