My tacoma progression

Just thought it would be fun to show the 3rd gens i have went through...

But before i start... I love these trucks. Not one has had a serious issue. So please don't think because i have went through a few it's because i had problems with any.

Ok my first... 2016 SR 4cyl 2wd...


It got totaled shortly after adding a custom grille...


Second... 2016 sr5 XP package 2wd


Only had it a few days and the dealership called me trying to change the terms we agreed upon so i returned it...

Went the same day and got the same truck but in white for $50 less per month at another dealership...

Third... 2016 sr5 XP package with Spartan grille


Then after a year of ownership i traded it because i really wanted 4 wheel drive...

4Th and current... 2017 sr5 4x4




Man i love these trucks!!

How’s your plasti dip grill holding up ? Looking to do to mine, but might go gloss or satin.

 

I removed the plasti dip because it started coming off. That was a pain!! First i peeled what i could, then used a pressure washer and goo gone. Took a few hours.

I didn't do the plasti dip. I traded for it already dipped from another member. My truck came with the black sr5 grille with chrome surround and chrome emblem.

 

The last picture is the most recent and shows it back to chrome. Not a fan of all the chrome... But it looks like next month I may have a new to me sr5 grille with dipped emblem and bezel. Back to all black!

 

Do u like the TRD pro grille? They have knock off versions now that r super cheap if u don’t want the OEM one. I have the OEM one myself, but I’ve had a while and was the one option I liked when I bought it.

Anyway, anything is better than the stock one that has the chrome.

 

Sucks it started coming off. Maybe more coats? I did my grill with about 5 or 6 thick coats of black and 2 or 3 coats of the glossifier. 23k miles, miami to Kodiak and plenty of pressure washes. The stuff is still good as new. Maybe more coats is needed. I am eyeing the TRD pro grill though

 

My OEM stock grille had a quarter sized area where the finish was coming off within 5 months of owning my OR. Luckily when I was washing the truck to install the Pro grille is when I noticed. I immediately tossed that junk.

Def other cool grille options but for me the Pro grille is exactly the look I wanted. After reading horror stories about the cracked grille surround from a certain manufacturer of grilles (I will not name them), I am glad I made the safe choice and it looks amazing IMO.

I'm not a huge fan of the pro grille. They look better than the all chrome but it's just not my style i guess. I'm definitely in the minority on that LOL

I'd actually prefer the xsp grille with a black bezel... But i have spent too much money on grilles for the other trucks i no longer have... So this time im trying to not buy a fancy grille until i have paid the truck off and certain I'm not trading it in on another tacoma

 

And I thought I went through a lot of Toyotas in a short period. You take the cake!
