What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Solder one (or two) of these to the ends of the bulb. One works for me, but someone said that two would be better.

All they do is provide a bit of resistance, so the control module recognized that there is a bulb in place. If you get the dome working, the map lights don't need the resistors.

Replaced a broken seat plate. Trying to decide if I should do the other (it's just as rusty but hasn't broken yet) or U-Bolt flip.

 

I got the new flexplate in the mail today, I took that along with my old A340E torque converter to the shop today. They're installing it all tomorrow - hopefully nothing else is broken.

They looked at me like I was crazy when I told them I converted it from 2WD.

The dunes are beautiful, but camping there over MLK weekend was one of the coldest nights I have ever spent in a tent. Our breath condensed on the inside of the tent and froze solid. The campsites are nice though, drop toilet, concrete picnic tables, and fire rings. No water, bring your own.

Coyote Canyon (at least that's what it was called on my buddy's forty-year-old map) was on the other side of the mountains from Butte Valley, down the road from Ballarat on the way to Goler Wash. We were actually heading for Goler Wash and turned one road early, since it was late we just camped there for the night and went up Goler Wash the next day.

Well today I finished swapping in a elocker rear end. 4.88’s. A custom rear bumper. And some 5100’s with OME springs and OME leaf springs in the rear.

Happy to say it is EXTREMELY fun to drive.

Yah, I mostly clutchless the thing after first. Friend's dad is a big rig driver and taught us both how to drive unsynchronized and at this point i find it 100% easier to float gears and rev match especially in low range. Haven't ground in a while, down side is it makes me loud on the trail with little throttle burps and such haha. You can totally heel toe it like car though, especially since the clutch grabs so high plus I have size 13 feet...

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you weren't supposed to float gears in a newer synchronized manual? Doesn't it wear the teeth on the synchros?

 

Weekend started off with a $100 set of Weatherguard side boxes off Craigslist.

Ended up a pretty nice looking set.

Probably not a set up everyone would like. But it'll suit my camping/hunting/adventuring needs quite well

Certainly does if you arent good at it, would take a very long time if you are good though (much like normal driving wears them too). In either case my transmission is a dime a dozen locally and after two years of regular clutchless still shifts fine normally as well. Fluid change last summer was free of shiny bits. But yeah I don't recommend it if you haven't practiced on something completely unsynched first.
