Putting some thought into welding up a set of rock sliders for my '17. I took my factory steps off today for some wheeling and was wondering if sliders can/should be bolted right into the step holing, or would it be better to weld/bolt to frame?

The holes for the steps have several layers of body metal that they go through, but I can't tell if it is just a nut plate underneath, or if they are going into steel.

Show me your pics- especially the underside thx.

If you want a strong set of Sliders they should attach to the Frame.

I custom made my sliders on my 5th Gen 4Runner and welded them straight to the frame, same when I had my second gen Tacoma.

Weld or bolt to the frame. If mounted into the factory body holes they are just steps or door ding protection. Will typically do damage to the lower panel if used as actual slider.
