    In for info!

Trying to score some acreage right now and one of the first things I'll be building will be a greenhouse. Would like to grow all my fruits and veggies.

Tons of sun, the biggest hurdle for me is WIND. Gusts should be expected to regularly hit 100mph. Will plastic stand up to that if built correctly? I'll probably build a little lumber storage barn to the west of it as a little wind break.

Yeah, winds blasting down the east face of a line of 14ers across the valley.

I've seen the standard long hoop ones with plastic although those are a little more sheltered. I was thinking I could build something like that but I'll definitely see if i can locate any others and see how they hold up.

Did you actually fall, or did you do spontaneous winter break dancing?

I know in Tx its a different type of cold. 30-40degrees feels colder than 10-20 here.

I don't know about 100mph, but mine has stood up to 70mph. I used polycarbonate roofing panels with a wood frame. I didn't skimp on the screws putting the panels on. It has been up eight years and is holding up good.

I added water bottles on the walls to act as a heat sink.

Nice! I close on 5 acres on Friday so I'll be working on some plans. I'm probably going to do a 3 sided storage building as a wind break which should help my cause. Going to have to get that up first, hopefully before the last snow for the season so i can see where the snow collects.

The roof is steep (45 degree angle) so the snow slides off if it gets too deep. It's held up fine to eight northern Wyoming winters.

my wife is wanting something like this but she keeps talking about putting a heater in something like that..:annoyed::facepalm:to start some seedlings but I dont see how the seedlings will survive vs keeping it warm enough not to freeze and using too much electric:notsure: I dont know if it would work or not.

Really like your greenhouse. What's the function of the water bottles?

I don't have a heater in mine, it would probably cost a fortune to run. I do start seedlings in it. I just bring them in the house at night. Unless it's completely overcast it gets plenty warm during the day for seedlings, even if it's only in the teens outside. If it's too cold, or overcast I simply don't put them out that day.

This greenhouse was a blast building.

Thank you. I built it for my wife’s retirement. And I also figured out a way to keep God’s creatures at bay. For the past 3 years, it’s been failure after failure. Most particularly from ground squirrels and deer. Seems to be working. Removable panels for easy gardening.

Nothing too exciting... maybe a little rust
And here I was thinking I was slick with my PVC houses for my garden beds, you guys put me to shame. I plan to put some clear plastic over them soon so I can make them into little greenhouses and start early this year.

We nicknamed the place Summit Market. It was a free for all. And I noticed my wife stopped spending time in the gh because of it. So I went into the war room and am glad I thought this one out clearly. Thanks fellas.
