Also this thread is about how someone knew something about a product after being told what the product was, but didn’t realize it at the time. I think. I came into this thread to make fun of mike sweers. So. I’m off the hook.

...and you think the TSB's came from Tacomaworld complaints? You think OV came from TW posts? No. TSB's came from dealers. OV came from someone wanting to make money and the idea came from someone giving him a call.

Well, you tried.....I also was glad to see someone who was understanding the discourse.

TW is a good place to learn and be entertained, sometimes both at the same time.

I saw you working it, and for a brief shining moment, I thought you might get through to him.

Yes, you extended a hand in friendship and you pulled back a bloody stump. He literally took in your calm and well-thought our point and came back more angry and butt hurt than ever.

Honestly its all goverment restrictions for better mpg getting more strict. If Toyota could make the truck without all these government restrictions then it woulda had alot of low end torque

Does anybody feel this engine drives like a really big 4-pot? Torque curves are a bit different, but my butt dyno says it feels like a bigger version of my venerable 22RE. I think some of that is the fly-by-wire hampering on the V6.

Pure supposition but reasonable. However, the farcical EPA fuel economy testing is based on the default mode. Since Toyota is rightly concerned about CAFE standards they are forced to make the default mode the less 'peppy' option.

    https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/fe_test_schedules.shtml

Study these test conditions for a while and consider if they represent your commute. They likely do not.

I see and hear much discussion about how the EPA tests don't represent reality well. They probably do for some, and not for others. I don't personally know how that split falls out but suspect it's the minority that is represented well.

Even if they don't represent reality for the bulk of us, the EPA tests serve as a benchmark. A benchmark that they can use to compare one vehicle to its predecessor, one vehicle to another, one fleet to another, one manufacturer to another. There is value in that, at least for the government. The assumption of course is that if vehicle A performs better on this test than vehicle B, then it is likely to do similarly under different driving conditions. That however, is the big uncertainty.

For us end users, when we discover that stated numbers are usually not achievable, that's what frustrates all of us. Short of having multiple mileage tests, with one standard being required for display, and the others being required as 'accessible', I don't see an easy solution.
