Couple Questions about ARB Locker Set-ups and such

So from my sig you can see that I live in Arizona. It get fricken hotter than balls here so I got a couple questions about people who run the ARB setups and place the Air Compressors in the engine bay.

With the temperature being so damn hot here I dont know if I would feel comfortable running the compressor in the engine bay. Wouldnt running it produce a lot of heat on top of the already hot temperatures underneath the hood? I know we have a fan and such to help cool the engines but do they work well enough for something like this?

What are some other alternatives to place the compressors?

Secondly I dont think this is one of those things I can install myself and do a good enough job to be think I would be safe with. Whats the average install cost for an ARB locker with the compressor setup and such including new gears?

If anyone in Az would be willing to help me or would like to do the install with my help as an assistant and knows what they are doing maybe let me know. I found a pretty good deal I might jump on but these few concerns are what is keeping me from making the purchase.

Any insight or thoughts or pictures of setups would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks you guys for always being awesome and helping out with things like this!

If the ARB compressors work in Australia, they had better work in the deserts of the U.S. Southwest too.

 

I'm looking to get the same setup as you and also live in AZ. I have already purchased and installed the compressor (High output not compact) in my engine bay. I did the install on that myself and saved atleast $200. Took awhile but wasn't to hard.. the worst part was the wiring. As far as installing the locker and a re-gearing you're looking at about $1500 out the door without the compressor. These prices are estimated... Locker $800, Gears about $200 (depends), and install is going to be $300-$400. So if you do the Compressor install yourself you're looking at $1750-$1850.. obviously cheaper if you know someone who knows how to do gears but I hear they're tricky. The other option is to buy a complete third member and do the install yourself which is what I'm going to do. East Coast Gear Supply offers a built third member with you're option of gear size and what differential you want plus it comes with something like a 5 year warranty. The complete third member costs about $1500.

To answer your question about the mounting location if you have a tool box in the bed you can mount it there.. Ive also seen some people mount them in the bed pockets but I dk how safe that is. Mine gets pretty hot but remember ARB is based out of Australia and was built to be used in the outback..

The only problem I've ever heard about them out here in AZ is the air hoses that run from the diff to the compressor have to be replaced every once in awhile because the heat..

^ ya I know about eastcoast but id like to keep my stock gears and such and found a super sweet deal but I kind of like the idea of how east coast does it....guess I have more to think about damnit haha
