Sell it privately, BUT make it a condition that they must “buy” it from the dealership. You “trade it in” for a new truck and the buyer purchases at your agreed on price. They call it an “in and out” transaction. This way, you get to sell it at the private sales price and get the tax benefits. The dealerships around here do charge ~$300 but well worth it.

I went from 17 xsp package 4x4 to an 18 trd or 6mt 4x4. I would highly recommend goin somewhere else to see what you currently have is worth, carmax or similar. I traded in with dealer, I lost a decent bit considering the xsp was cosmetic and not hardware. So after 2 hours of them not budging I said well ill just go on usaa and get a cheaper truck and take less loss on mine. Once they heard that they immediately dropped several thousand off the new truck. So I lost a couple grand on the 17 but got all I wanted and then some in the 18. I really hated the auto trans, dealer kept saying mine was not listed in tsb's and weren't too concerned wth updates. Overall I got a great deal on the 18 and much happier.

I had never heard of the "in and out transaction" described by Phsycle. Interesting tactic -- seems to give the best of both private party sale and trade-in. Will check with the dealer from which I got my truck to see if they would do something along these lines. Of course there would still be a hit with those transaction costs, but mitigated by getting the advantages of the private party sale and trade-in.

Right now I'm leaning away from buying up to an '18, at least for the short term. I'd like to see any bugs in the TSS worked out, as well as 'amortizing' my depreciation loss over a longer period.

Also, I want to give some thought to whether I would buy up to another TRD Sport. The stiffer suspension of the Sport doesn't bother me, the larger wheels / tires not that important; but I do find the scoop, useless as it is, annoying. Don't care much about the locker on the Off Road, as my off-roading is pretty tame.

If you are going to keep your truck and don't want the scooped hood there is a hood trading thread where guys will not only trade but give you some cash for your scooped hood!
