Just when I thought I was set on getting some new 285/70 r17 I saw a thread on skinny tires. My overall goal for the truck is to have a well set up overland rig. I currently have a full ADS 2.5 suspension ready to be installed including leafs and dirt king control arms, all I need is the wheels and tires.

Question: Will my UCA's be able to put the 255 80 r17 into correct alignment spec? I know most companies use the standard 285/70 r17 to do the R&D on this.

Q: Has anyone had both sizes, any personal experiences? I am aware that the skinny tires have its pros and cons in different conditions. For an overlanding rig which would be preferred?

Q: Will local tie shops have 255 80 r17 on stock if I get a blowout in another state or will they most likely have the 285 70 r17?

Thank you guys for the help.

I currently have some Cooper 255/80/17 with Total Chaos UCAs

The shop I took my truck to was able to align it within spec.

I have not had the other size tire, but my truck has seen a variety range of off road, Superstition has it all; powder soft dunes, rocky obstacles, steep hill climbs and various areas to really test how much flex you can get. Also have gone out to Corral Canyon and ran Bronco Flats, Sidewinder, and several offshoots I don't remember the names. The tires have held up off road and felt great on the rocks and sand.
On road I did have a sidewall blowout on the freeway, but other than that weird incident they don't bug me on the road at all

The times I had to get new tires in this size it always had to be ordered, never in stock
