Was sup everyone, my name is CH and I am from Northern California. I am new to this forum and have a 2005 Tacoma and would like to post a question to the group. A few months ago, I had my neighborhood mechanic replace my water pump, a few days later I can hear a large noise similar to an exhaust, the noise can only be heard while driving. Reasoning behind replacing my water pump because my A/C was not operating properly. My A/C and heater works now; however, it only works while its turned on high. I want my neighborhood mechanic to replace the A/C compressor and he can accomplish the job if its like for like; however, I am unsure if that is the only issue for he doesn't possess the necessary skill set to improvise or figure out that the job is more complex as originally thought. I received a few quotes from professional shops which range from $600 to $1650 depending on the complexity of the issue. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas in regards to determine what I need to do regarding my A/C compressor.
