In need of a breaker bar. I want to get a 1/2" bb, but my sockets are all 3/8" (except for lug nut sockets).

If I get a 1/2" bb, is it ok to use a 1/2" to 3/8" converter, or am I at risk of breaking sockets?

would anybody recommend a 3/8" bb for suspension, brake caliper bolts, lug nuts? Or should I just bit the bullet, and buy a 1/2" bb with 1/2 sockets?

If all your sockets are 3/8" drive, get a 3/8" drive breaker bar or long ratchet. Plenty of areas on the truck with no room to fit an adapter. e.g. your transmission fill plug

I'm always a fan of why not both?

But also, if your stuff is 3/8, just get a 3/8 bb if that's all you need.

You can use a 3/8 breaker bar. 18" is a fair length, then fit a piece of pipe over the handle if you need it longer/more leverage.

For suspension work though it's really a good idea to have 1/2 6 point sockets, a 1/2" breaker / ratchet / and torque wrench.

Shop your local pawn shops. Sometimes you can score amazing deals on this stuff. Like Snap On for less than new Craftsman.

You can also shop eBay. I've bought very nice specialty sets of Craftsman sockets for 1/3 the store sale price, and they were new, not used.

In core hand tools like this, in my opinion it's worth getting products with a lifetime warranty. I've got tools from Dad and other family from the mid 40's, and my own that I started collecting in the mid 60's.

Which is another tip. Sometimes you can find estate sales with a nice set of tools at a decent price. It's worth looking in your free time.
