I think I found something new about my Tacoma this morning, It knows when my hood is open and gives me an alert when its in gear.

Looked online and didn't find anyone else mention it except on camry's.

Have a 2017 TRD OFF Road, so this morning I decided to adjust my Fog Lights. I had it parked and aimed against a wall. I did my adjustments and wanted to see how it was further back. With the hood still open, I put the truck into reverse and the warning triangle with exclamation comes up. I put it back into park and it goes away. I go back into drive and it alert comes one. I left the hood open incase i needed to do another adjustment.

I think that's one of the reasons the plug and play auto start is such a simple install. The truck has every sensor it needs already installed, no need to run a hood pin or wiring etc.

I found out about that warning one day when driving down the street and my hood suddenly popped open, it started beeping and flashing.

I discovered this after someone tried to steel my truck by cutting the sensor wire through the grille. Fortunately it is also tied to the alarm systems so they did not get very far. I had no idea until I got in the truck and it started beeping at me with the hood ajar warning, even though the hood was closed.

It tells when the hood is open when you are in Park and engine running. Pain in the ass while trying to air up tires while watching TPMS

Is this on all trims? I don't think my 2022 SR5 has this?

I’m guessing the 18 sr doesn’t have this since I drove with it not closed all the way. Also I’ve never seen the low gas warning ever. I’ve even driven down to 15 miles left.

I have seen people forgot to close the hood on their old vehicles on the road.. which is why modern cars and trucks have sensor (or toggle) in the hood to let the driver know that the hood is open before he/she goes on the road. For safety.

Mine ('20 MT with a key) has this feature. I don't hate it.

I noticed the alert, didn't see a button under the hood to trigger the alert, so I assumed witchcraft and went on about my life.

It is just another safety feature. Like some mention going down the road and have your hood pop up and smack you in the windshield is quite an experience. I had it happen to me back in 1972. I know it is a long time ago but vehicles have changed a lot since then safety wise. So embrace it as it is meant to save your life or someone else's. Just saying.

I did that in a rental once. I drove from LA to Vegas with the hood popped. Thought hood was shitty due to the rattling at 80 + in the desert. Valet at the hotel closed it for me

That happened to me too around 1983 or 1984, definitely a scary experience.

I was about to change the headlight bulbs recently, truck was in the garage, doors must have auto locked last time I used it. I didn't really need to be in the cab anyway so I reached through the open window and pulled the hood latch. Triggered the alarm instantly. Oops. :anonymous::anonymous:

I was on a 2 lane bridge of all places and it flew all the way up against the windshield, hinges tore the cowl panel up too.
