It's good practice to replace the license number with another number so it looks real. I use something easy to remember, like my social security number.

For the Record: I just went to platerecordsfinder.com and entered my own plate. It returned with my vehicle make, model, and year. If I pay them it'll give me more info.

So yes. People can find out about you via your plate. All for $2.95

That's the thing. The internet makes it REALLY easy to find people.

 

I'm well aware. Facts of life I guess since I chat on the local repeaters every day. More worried about them than you guys.

It's true though. Some of the folks in the HAM world are a bit strange. I'm not sure why the FCC thinks it useful to make all our personal data so public.

Car thieves scrape auto forums looking for plate numbers. Depending on your state a person can get your personal information by paying a small fee, or checking online smog records. Repo agents can get your info by performing a skip trace, and there are websites that will have this information as well if you pay (some sites are bullshit though).

Honestly, not too hard to find someone if you have their plate.

 

I mean, if I am dead in a ditch anyways...

Honestly, I think it just comes from the public radio rules, and they were just too lazy to change it for individuals. I am with you though, it makes no real sense.

 

Plus I was told you can't use a PO BOX. Must be a physical address you live at. You know... in case the FCC wants to come knock on the door. Cause they probably do that a whole ton.

 

Can I just use the address of the guy next door that runs his subwoofer until 1am? They'll give me my mail if it is addressed wrong, but Dahmer can get them and not me...

 

Around here, on the county website you can find out: how much your neighbors mortgage is, if they’ve been divorced, sued, went bankrupt, how much their property taxes are, if their house is in their moms name, etc....

 

On a related note, just made a grocery store run. If you are the type of person to throw your trash in a guys pickup bed, make sure your ski rental receipt from the place next door doesn't have your name, address and phone number on it.
