I'm looking at 2018 Tacomas. I've driven a new '18 automatic TRD Sport and a used '17 manual TRD Off Road. The automatic was truly awful. I really liked the manual but it can only be had with a 4x4 in the TRD trims.

I am trying to find out which features do not come on the 2018 manual TRD Sport as compared to the automatic. I read the brochure and it looks like I would lose the push button start (and possibly the touch entry on the door, but that isn't clear) and the hill start assist. Can anyone confirm whether any other features are missing from the manual truck compared to the automatic? I'm specifically interested in the radar cruise control, but anything else? There are no 6MT trucks within 1000 miles so I can't just go look at one. I would be ordering it and I don't want to get any surprises when it gets delivered.

Somewhat related - can push button start be retrofitted easily?

No Push Button Start, no Door Handle Sense, and no JBL option on the Manual. You still get that Saftey Sense stuff and the Sport Manual also has that Hill Holder Feature.

Only the automatic has the Hill start assist control (HAC)

My 2017 TRD Sport manual has hill start assist. Don't really care for it, but it is much better than the Jeep JK version, which I always shut off.

yes the '17 Sport MT has HSA but the '17 OR/Pro MT does not.

edit: it is mentioned below that all '18 MT's have no HSA.

My 18 off-road 6mt doesn't have hill assist, push button start. But I hated the auto in my 17 and traded up.

The manual is missing a couple of cup holders in addition to the stuff listed above.

Weirdly, Toyota eliminated hill start assist on all the manual 2018’s.

I’m pretty sure you could add a push start button, there are varying degrees of how thorough you want it to be (new fobs vs. inexpensive button that still requires the key etc). Radar cruise control is included with the manual.

    From the toyota website...

Toyota's specs indicated the same for 2017 and yet multiple 2017 TRD Sport MT owners indicate they have HAC so...

Seems kinda odd that they dropped the Hill Start off the Sport Manuals for 18.

Agreed. I doubt they did. Just a mistake in the spec sheet that was carried over.

My 2018 sport MT has Hill start. I can let go of the brake and it will not move on a hill for about 2 seconds.

This must be the case. It's bizarre to me that you would have hill start assist in an auto but not manual. My 2010 GTI did not have it, my 2011 128i does have it - both 6MT. It's nice to have but not a dealbreaker by any means.

Lots of helpful responses here already. I can tell this is a great forum. Thank you all for the above posts.

This surprised me the first time I was on a slight grade. Thought for sure manual had it, but I was wrong. It’s ok though

Most around here don’t have the means to trade in our 1yr old trucks.

The Pro and Off Road Manual never had it, only SR and Sport Manuals.

Probably known to OP, but you also get a completely different set of gear ratios, final drive, the 8.75" rear diff same as the offroad models (just no e-locker).
