Definitely was fun! Hopefully I get another snow wheeling trip in before it starts to melt. Rock crawling season is definitely going to start up much earlier than last year.

    Ok, TLDR thread.:anonymous:

Why Factor 55 flatlink and not prolink? I'm tossing up both. I like the looks and design of the prolink (it protects the line from road grime) but everyone seems to have the flatlink. Thoughts?

The Prolink sticks further out compared to the Flatlink. Just because you lose some approach angle was enough for me to stay away from it.

In the case of my truck, the flatlink and 1" fairlead combo I have stick out 3 inches of the face of the bumper. The prolink and 1" fairlead stick out 6 inches.

    Flatlink is also cheaper.

I'm going with the 1.5" plus the pro link. Haha it will be thick.

I'm just thinking of winch line protection...

@alee891 had the prolink. If he wants, he can chime in and talk about it.

I won’t get into it much.
    Prolink is shit.
    Flatlink & Ultrahook are better.
In conclusion, they’re all overpriced items that will get you cool points, but a lighter wallet.

@arctic04trd I have a flatlink because I jumped in on a group buy. I wouldn't buy one at full price unless I just had money to waste. I don't like the Prolink because I don't want my truck to have a unaboob.

Interesting. Did the prolink not work for you then? I guess I'll spring for the flatlink with a rope guard.
I've got a d-ring but I'm getting away from 3/4" and trying out soft shackles.
So any other reccmendations? I NEED to replace my fairlead because the one that came with the VR8000-s is powdercoated and is chipping ans pitting bad because of where i live. I'm worried it will fray the rope.

I don't know of any alternatives aside from just a standard hook

Take the hook off and just use the loop in the winch line where the pin goes through for the hook or pro link?
    synthetic-winch-rope-care-maintenance-end-splicing.jpg

I got my pro link for free essentially (traded a few leaf springs for it) and only reason I have it. Will probably end up taking it off or stringing it up out of the way. Not a fan of having to use two d rings everytime I need to winch or how far it sticks out. I have yet to hit mine but I did hit my hook before and it was tightened off to the side so I know its bound to happen at some point

Isn't this the only way to use the prolink?

I guess I'm just not understanding the downsides to the prolink. Or any closed winchline shackle mount. My approach angle isn't magnificent as it is. I have an ARB and I'm not planning on rock crawling. This is more of a camping and moderate offroad rig. I can see if an extra inch or two up from would help alot of hardcore wheelers. But I'm not one of those.

So I guess the question here is: for my uses, does the prolink, or flatlink for that matter, seem like a good thought or a headache in the making?

The fairlead will be replaced by factor55. My hook is always fastened off of the fairlead, so no worries about it scratching. Should I keep the hook?
