my 2005 tacoma has been leaking a lot of oil from the valve cover and has even started to smoke due to the oil sitting on the manifold. the truck only has 57000 on it so I find it odd that it is already leaking this much oil. could this be a sign of a more serious problem or do I just need new valve cover gaskets. any help is appreciated.

Wash all that off real good, order a valve cover gasket from rock Auto. I'd get felpro brand if they have it. Make sure it comes with spark plug hole gaskets. Might as well put spark plugs in while your in there. I'd get denso, ngk or factory Toyota only. If you've done any kind of vehicle maintenance it should be a 3 hour job at most.
I've replaced my valve cover gasket already but I also put rtv on the new gasket

I think valve cover leaking is a semi common problem on these. Your also driving a 12-13 year old truck, even though it has low miles it'll still show its age. At least the 2.7s are really easy to work on compared to most new cars though.
Probably about time for a new belt and antifreeze too.
