My wife’s aunt and uncle live there on the washougal river just northeast of town. Really love that area. Was up there back in may.

That's pretty much the definition of a straight pipe.

Doesn’t Clark County have emissions testing?

Do you think they will find out you’ve altered the exhaust system?

I welded an 18" resonator on my old truck ('01 3.4 MT) and a thrush turbo on my old truck, that was a really good sounding and cheap setup until the thrush rusted out and fell off on the trail one day, I put a slip-on turndown on what was left after that and ran it that way until I sold it. With the 5spd it sounded great, and popped and gurgled on decel, and the drone was almost ok on the highway...

I run an 18" resonator and an f60 on my auto truck ('03 3.4 AT) now, sounds much better than stock, and is much quieter than just the resonator, and infinitely better than the month or so I drove around in it after the stock can fell off on the trail.

Somewhat related- if your mid pipe seal is starting to go, the exhaust will be very unpleasant and raspy no matter what...

I’m not in Clark, Skamania doesn’t do emissions tests.

Personally, I'm older and I despise loud exhaust. Everybody just wants to make noise to get attention, and its stupid, and a public nuisance, in my opinion. That said, I'll try to help. I'm assuming you have the V6.

The exhaust system is designed and tuned to work with the engine is a specific way that affects performance and power. Back pressure, or lack thereof, will affect this.

I don't know what your budget and your financial situation is, but I'd advise making sure the truck is totally up to date on preventative maintenance first. What is the last time the timing belt and water pump were replaced? Are your tires in good shape, etc? These items are expensive, but fundamental. If your exhaust and muffler are in good shape and do not need to be replaced right now, save up for it later when you must replace them. Many folks prefer the magnaflow mufflers, and you can find lots of videos with audio on this site. You could also do the deck plate mod, which creates more intake noise, some say a tiny bit more power (debatable), and is very cheap and easily reversible.

I know you're eager to do stuff to your truck. Check out the stickied threads on mods and how to information first. You might find more practical ideas there that give you satisfaction to work on your truck.

If you want your truck to sound a little louder add an aftermarket muffler onto it, yeah it may be a little more expensive, but it will sound a whole lot better and the truck will run better. I picked up a Maganaflow Cat Back kit on Amazon for like $500 and it sounds 100x better than the kid at my school that has a straight piped 2004 doublecab. His may be louder, but it sounds like garbage and his truck runs like shit because of it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CCG0DW?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A "real truck" will roll some coal. Has 18 wheels too. You could always put a stack out the back of the bed ;)

Nah - don't do that. lol It will not run correctly with a straight pipe and cause damage. Don't do it! or - do it and wear ear plugs on the interstate. lol

I had a flowmaster 40 series on a 91 pathfinder I had. 3.0 V6. In my opinion it sounded great. Nice low rumble at Idle and not droning at highway speeds.

Sometimes guys your age go by my house with their straight piped Subaru and Honda I think it is... lol Gotta love the Fart Cannon

They have OBDII emissions testing done by folks who would rather be anywhere else and don't give a flying fuck what you've done to your car. They don't get paid anymore or less to police you haha.

That's very untrue, 4cyl can sound far worse haha. But V6 can sound pretty good if your only muffler is a turbo.
