I have a 2016 TRD Sport with the Premium and Tech package, with the JBL audio system.

I have always been curious why the MP3 playback order from USB is different from CD. If I copy the exact same files to a CD and to a USB stick, the order will be different - the CD will be played by filename per folder, where the USB stick will ignore folders and aggregate all filenames into one list. For example, I have folder A and folder B, each with file 1 and file 2. CD will play A1, A2, B1, B2. USB will play A1, B1, A2, B2.

I have checked for OTA updates, seem to have the latest. Have searched the forums, and only found a reference to not displaying by file names. In the manual, the information I have found indicates that the order of playback will be by filename, regardless of folder location.

Has anybody been able to change USB playback order to match that of CD playback order?

This is something I researched a lot as well. No solution that I could find. USB uses the file tags and ignores directory structure. I like to select music by what kind of mood I'm in and used to use folders to categorize for that. Doesn't work here. Best solution I could find when researching was to use the Genre tag to categorize. PITA, but better than nothing.

If there is a better solution out there, I'd love to hear it.

I have all of my tracks' ID3 tags filled in with track number info. However, those same song files are saved with the track number leading the song name. Lemme draw a picture....

USB drive > Artist Folders > Album Folders > song files + one album art file (.jpg no bigger than 200x200)

So lets say I've got Ozzy's Bark At The Moon. Within that album folder, it looks like this:

    01 Bark At The Moon
    02 You're No Different
    03 Now You See It
    ....and so on.

So, I can't say for absolute certain whether the head unit is reading the file name for determining playback sequence or if it is pulling track numbers from the ID3 tags. I'm sure I've got some folders, handed off from friends, that are not numbered in the file name so...after I find them, I can do a little test and figger it out. But I'm fairly certain it will have something to do with what the Entune reads for sequencing.

    Solved:
With a USB drive, my Entune is ordering the playback sequence using track number data from the ID3 tags, not the file name.

That's interesting info. I'll tinker with that tag a bit. Thanks, axepilot.

I started with iTunes. I've been using it for years and find the interface to be excellent for tagging song files as it writes your changes to the ID3 tag.

You can select every song in a particular album, right click and choose "get info", and youll only have to type in the album name, artist, and any other fields thst are common (everything except song name and track number) and when you hit Enter, it edits all songs at once.

Maybe other software is better at this but I've grown used to the interface.
