Looks like its getting near time for doing the front disc brakes.
1998 Toyota tacoma 4x4 ext cab manual hubs manual trans 5 speed

Can the front rotors be machined? Or you just replace them?
Any suggestions or related links for this job, parts gotchas etc?
    Thanks

Rotors can be machined, but if they’re worn thin or warped you’ll wanna replace them. As far as parts go, I usually run Wagner ThermoQuiet pads, they seem to do well. And there tons of YouTube videos and write ups on this forum that show the process.

Do the manual hubs have to be removed or will the rotors come off without manual hub removal ?- thanks

Ok you may wanna double check me, but no the hubs don’t have to come off. Once the caliper is off, the rotor will slide off the wheel studs

In case you don't know, you don't need to disconnect the brake line from the caliper when you remove it. Just be prepared to suspend it with a length of wire (coat-hanger, or romex) after you unbolt it. Don't let it hang by the flexible brake line.
