I just bought a 2017 Tacoma Double Cab SR5 to replace my bulletproof 2006 Tacoma. The new Taco came with SS running boards installed. I wanted them removed but the dealer wouldn't allow any kind of credit for them. I just don't like them. I use a walking cane and they make for an awkward entry especially since Toyota eliminated the grab handle from the driver's side A pillar.

If I have them removed, can I reuse the mounting bolts or are there specific bolts/plugs that come on Tacos from the factory that I'll need to get?

I don't want to pull the trigger on this and come up short on the correct parts I need to put it back to assembly line stock. Any input will be appreciated.

I'm not sure about the 2017's (mine has the SS running board factory installed). But previously I had a 2009 that I installed running boards on myself. The 2009 had little plastic caps that either screwed or snapped into holes that the mounting bolts for the running board attaches to. The bolts you refer to came with the running board.

I have 2017 Access rather than double cab. As DES2009 said, normal steps on these trucks bolt to the underside of the cab (not the frame) and these holes come from the factory with plastic plugs in them.

Any new set of steps you buy should include the hardware needed to install into these holes. If you take those existing steps off and don't install new ones, just reinstall the bolts you removed, unless you are trying to sell those steps.

If you sell those steps, and don't install new ones, I would go to hardware store and just get some bolts to plug the holes.
