I just bought a 2017 TRD Sport long box. Looking for a soft top canopy but every site I've checked states that their products do not fit 3rd gen Tacoma's. I am up near Vancouver Canada. The soft top makes sense as I do not want to have a heavy fiberglass canopy and I do not want to have it on the truck year round, only for camping.

Anyone know of a manufacturer that makes 'em for 3rd gen?

Thanks for the link Rob! This is going to look good on the 'blazing blue' TRD. Once I've got it i will post a picture.

A used one? That sounds nice. Up here they are very rare, I think I have only ever seen one down in California. Very unlikely to run into a used one here. By the way the Amazon prices are a lot better than Softoppers; I wonder how they compare in quality though. And their website says they don't have 'em for the 3rd gen (Aamazon doesn't). One has to wonder what the difference between a soft top for a 2016 and a 2017 would be. The only thing I can see that is different is the slightly curved tailgate on the 2017. But with the tent-type material it perhaps does not make any difference at all. The price difference is something like $500.

Not sure what you mean by Amazon. As far as I know there are only two brands: Bestop, sold through retailers and Amazon; and Softopper, a company in Boulder, Colorado that makes their own design and only sells direct. Different products, each has pro’s and con’s. Biggest differences are that Bestop has side windows, and mounts above the bed rails rather than inside them. There’s an entire sticky thread here on TW with lots of pics and info on Softoppers. And, they (Softopper) have a specific version for 3rd gens which fits with the curved tailgate, which by the way started in 2016. A friend has a Softopper on his 2nd gen and it is a high quality product.

I got a used Softtopper for my 04 up in Napa Valley for $125 in good condition.

They are pretty hard to come by though, I drove 6 hours one way to get it lol.

Hey thanks for the replies! Amazon.ca carries the Bestop brand and they sell for $910 CDN, which is about $600 USD. But they only carry them for the second gen Taco's. As far as buying a used one for $125??? I would drive 6 hrs one-way for one of those for sure. Once again, thanks for the replies; I will follow the thread and learn more about all of this.
