    Hi every one,

My english may be not perfect but trying ....

Not really use to ask something here , I usualy read .

I own a 2006 with 252,500 kilometers on it , Brand new frame last summer. Toyota dealer also change all the brake and gaz line also all the front and rear suspension. It ride like a new one...

Living in Quebec , winter is kind of bit hard talking about traction for a 2 wheels drive up here.

Sometime at a stop when I try to go only one wheel have traction and I know it's normal for a 2x4. I was wondering if it would do the job if I purchase a use rear diff from a 4x4 and fit it on my 2x4. This way I could use the lock system and have at list my other wheel help tracking....
I understand it wouldn't be a 4x4 but at list 2 wheels traking would be better then only one and always the one who is on the ice side ...

Any one have any advice about that !

    Thank's
    Michel

Try hitting the parking brake little when the back wheels starts slipping. It worked when I had a hand brake. Got me moving.

Someone else can chime in, but would a rear diff out of a prerunner be better? im not sure if there is a difference in gear ratio but i know that prerunners could come with LSD or diff locks or something. But if you were to just find a third member out of a 4x4 you would have to add your own instead of the e-locker that some tacoma's come stock with, then do all the electrical work and hooking it up.

Also, you could always buy two snow tires for the rear (or 4 snow tires for all corners) and put them on steel wheels for when it gets real bad out.

Also put some weight in your bed.Keeps your wheels planted more.I use a 85lb bag of concrete.

2x , I would try adding weight first and see if that helps you with the traction. Best to save up for a 4x4 for the next truck

As mentioned the 2 most effective no cost things you can do is is put some weight in the bed of the truck. Put a couple sand bags where the wheel wells are during the winter. Second apply the parking slightly when the wheels start to spin. This acts in most vehicles similar to limited slip. Just remember to release the brake once you have traction.

The first thing to do is add 150 kilos of sand bags in the bed. Isolate it so it won't slide forward of the wheel wells. If you are willing to spend a little money, tires are where I would spend it first. Next, a true limited slip differential, like a Detroit Tru Trac. That combo will make a shocking difference.

Ok, all answer are good. First I have to tell you that here in Quebec it's the law, you have to have 4 winter tires from december 15 to marsh 15 so this is done and don't worry I got real good one. For adding weight I did not try that so far but I'll do it tomorrow for sure.

6inch lift sitting on bilstein coilovers. Lexus is300 studs in front to keep stock wheels, general grabber red letters, nfab front bumper.
Get some grippy tires and let some air out of them. Gives a wider footprint. Don't know if chains are legal where you are at.
