I was lucky enough to score tickets to a Porsche destination drive. We got to drive 6 different cars on various tracks. The last event was a passenger trip on the infield road track with a Porsche Panamera Turbo and a Porsche driver. I think that puppy is at or north of 550HP. Launch control in that is brutal (and this was with 4 in the car). Ceramic brakes in that car were nearly as brutal. I'm pretty sure he took that 4000+ lb car around the road course faster than I did the 911 GTS. There was also probably a skill difference to help out.

Sorry OP, slightly off topic

Sounds like you should buy a cheap 1st gen and put some new parts on it. Don't know what's stopping you?

MTS is marketed to target a larger audience who would be more interested in that. It has nothing to do with crawl control...

MTS and Crawl Control are similar in many ways. MTS and Crawl Control use the same brake system and computer to modulate the brakes to keep all four wheels turning at the same speed in 4LO. Crawl Control is MTS without the throttle being manipulated by the user.

When have you seen MTS being marketed or advertised by Toyota? They have been pushing Crawl Control on all fronts and not a word about MTS until now.

Crawl control is awesome for normal people. I used it to get unstuck in a situation that I admittedly would not have been able to do myself. Its important to note that for many 4x4 users 4x4 is the means and not the goal. I use 4x4 to get to my hunting spots. If I ever find myself stuck at dark 30 while trying to get to my treestand then I want the fastest and most efficient way to get back on track, for me (atleast once) crawl control has provided that.

Right. The second part is exactly what I’m talking about. All it is is a way to generate more revenue and gain a larger customer base. MTS is more automatic and therefore more desireable to the average driver. This has literally nothing to do with which one works better than the other. It’s all marketing.

I think CRAWL CONTROL just sounds better in advertising and marketing and that is why that is what they used. "MULTI-TERRAIN-SELECT" sounds, well a bit feminine over "CRAWL CONTROL" doesn't it?

Now, I am talking about advertising, not the systems. MTS is fantastic.
Remember, Toyota is seeking new Tacoma owners. They already have us sold on the product line without trying.
Ever since 2009, they pushed the LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL as the big item to get in the Off Road TRD, and never hardly mention the A-TRAC system. I mean until recently, nobody knew what A-TRAC or traction control is/was. Every real off roader knows what a LOCKER is, right?
    It's all marketing.

Toyota has never advertised MTS before this.

After watching enough videos, Crawl Control seems legit enough. On the other hand, Multi Terrain Select seems incredibly useless and gimmicky.

Keep in mind, Multi-Terrain Select is just an advanced A-TRAC with adjustable slip levels... but I can go everywhere with A-TRAC and no adjustment, so to that point, you are correct.

Didn't know the "Official Off Road World" had hired you as a spokesman haha. Crawl Control works as advertised. Another tool to keep you unstuck.

It's an easy upgrade. You just reuse your traction control and ABS system with new programming and bam, you have a new marketable feature.
