I’m going to be changing my automatic trans fluid on my 2009 4.0. What fluid do I need to use? And do I need to use any additives. If so what kind and how do I need to mix the additive into the fluid. Thanks guys

So you simply remove the inlet and the outlet of the trans cooler and do it that way with a 3/8 clear hose i can get from any hardware store? I see anthony250f and a few others just use the inlet and outlet lines that come out through the front fascia to get to the trans cooler. I assume either one would work? really need to do this as im at 111k and i have no idea if the PO got his transmission fluid changed at 60k or they told him 100k. This way makes it so i dont have to mess with any plugs other than the check plug correct?

Yep 3/8 tubing and use a pump sprayer it's really easy.

I dropped the pan and replaced the pan gasket and the filter for piece of mind. The filter is a cheap part

Wait so if i buy a pump sprayer i just open up both hoses and pump new fluid in while having another hose in a giant jug. So eventually there is only new fluid? Am i forcing new fluid in to the transmission to push the old fluid out? Or am i letting it drain into the jug first with the truck running THEN i use the pump sprayer.

Just don't pump out more than 2 to 2 1/2 quarts at a time. Make sure to do the transmission fluid level procedure to make sure your transmission is at the proper level when you are done. I just did mine a couple of weeks ago and at that time Walmart was running free shipping on orders over $35. I bought 4 gallons at about 17.50 each and got free shipping on the whole lot.
