    Greetings Community,

I’ve been lurking here for just under a month. For the first time in my life, I purchased a brandy new car. I chose the ‘17 Taco TRD OR DCSB in Inferno. I’m really enjoying it. I moved to Nantucket just under 3 years ago for work and at the time was driving a GMC Envoy that got along just fine. Then, one fateful night, I went surf casting and got lazy. I buried the thing down to the chassis. Never again, I said.

    Enter Taco.

In addition to introducing myself to you all, I’d like to know what can be done to make the OR most capable driving on sand. (It might already be fine just the way it is...after all, my GMC got me from point A to point B with experience).

Most of the coastline is drivable and is either loose granular sand of varying depths, to more hard packed wet sand as the tides permit.

What upgrades/mods are best suited to driving on the beach?

What have you found most valuable in an aftermarket addition?E36F10FF-0BEA-44C5-B9CC-C8173F85051A.jpg

P.S. I’m sure there are already threads on this topic. Just point me in the right direction!

Welcome! If your doing lots of beach driving you should get yourself some traction boards like Max Trax or Smittybuilt
Could get you out of a tough situation

    Welcome!
Tires! Best thing you can buy for ‘em. Then I would get after market bulbs and/or Light/spot lights if you do night driving where there’s none or only a small amount of light on the path. My third gen stock bulbs suck.

Does anyone have recommendations for tires that perform well in sand? Also, should I just pop them on the stock rims?

Also, I will be doing a fair amount of night driving. Suggestions for light upgrades?

Welcome to TW....The answer to most of your questions is simply personal choice and budget. Hundreds of tire and wheel combinations, many designed for better traction in different conditions. As far as lighting, many choices there too, light bars, pod lights, behind the grill, lots of options and a big price range.

Thanks. I’m looking for suggestions. What are some favorites? What has worked well for previous builds? Tried and true brands? I know there are endless options, that’s why I’m trying to pick your brains and distill this down to some solid choices.

A really good tire choice for almost all conditions would be the Falken Wildpeak AT/3W, I have them on my truck and I do a lot of hunting and they do pretty well in mud and snow.

For lighting you have a lot of different options. I used a morimoto 35 watt hid kit to upgrade my low beams. Then I used the SDHQ dual light bar mounts to put two 30” light bars hidden behind my grille. I think the combination of all of these gives me a lot of usable light.

This site also has mod-specific threads for tires/wheels and lighting.

Getting rid of the ugly chrome cheese grater grill will be the best mod for the beach. Gotta look good
