Hey everyone! I’ll be in Lake Tahoe until Sunday, I was wondering if anyone knows any quick and easy trails or places just to play around with the truck for a bit?

Reason I say easy is because I don’t have any recovery gear nor an extra vehicle. I’m just about to hit 2k miles so I just wanted to throw the truck on 4H/4L for a bit. Im up here to snowboard, figured I cold take advantage of some light off roading if possible :hattip:

I haven't been up at all this winter, but one of my favorite little summer places to check out is Long Lake, super mellow access road for a stock truck but a little bit of stuff to watch out for. And then a nice little half mile hike to a beautiful lake! You could also check out the whole Jackson Meadows area and the options out there are endless. Sorry I can't be more help!

No worries! That’s actually very helpful! I’ll definitely check it out and report back where I end up, Thank you.

I saw something on google called monitor pass, anyone have any experience? It’s labeled as an easy trail and looks beautiful!

Nothing inside the basin is open in the winters. The gates all close November 1st-15th. Unless you want to head over to the rubicon start where the OHV section is.

Regardless, going alone in the snow with no recovery gear is a terrible idea.

    So I found this?
Where it says mountain passes, it says “monitor & Luther- open”
Not sure if maybe it’s a different trail?

Agreed! Which is why I was looking for a very easy trail, more of 2wd trail, just to engage 4H.. get some dirt on the wheels kind of thing. I really wish I would’ve planned this ahead of time! It’s really just a snowboarding trip, realizing it’s beautiful out here, and wanting to get out some more.

Monitor pass is paved. It’s highway 89. It drops down into Topaz lake. Same with Luther pass. The signs are for tourists to know whether the pass is open or not for vehicle traffic. They are not trails.
There are some trails that spin off the passes. But both passes are over 8k feet and there is definitely snow up there. Also it’s an hour drive from South Lake Tahoe.
