I would send you one but mine are on back order, the garnishes are easy to install, they just snap in, can use your old clips to hold it in or get new rings.

So it clicks into to 2018 grille and doesn’t need the sensor housing to hold it there (nothing back there on my 2017)? Definitely might go this way instead of getting a 2016-17 fake Chinese grill. I’ll just place an order for the back ordered garnish and order the grill when the garnish actually comes in. Getting excited now!

This is exactly the reason there is a black market for these.

Can you install the grill without the lettering? I know I drive a Toyota, I don't give a crap if others can't figure it out on their own.

From a sheer aesthetics standpoint, that's the only thing I'd like to change on my 2017 "super white" Tacoma - I'd like to swap out the chrome grill and replace it with flat or matte black.

Toyota doesn't have a matte or flat black grille, they only have a gloss black one.
You can get a color coded grille to match your truck 53100-04500-a0 $303.07( this one had the sombrero logo) shipped or a TRD PRO grille(w/o the TRD insert) 53100-04510-a0 $394.58(this one has the Toyota logo)

Sorry if I'm covering the same old ground but I'm just getting into this. Anyway, I'm thinking of trading my 2017 TRD Off Road for a 2018 TRD Off Road. I have an OEM Toyota TRD Pro grille on my 2017 which will not work on the 2018. So let me get this straight, all I need is the new style TRD pro grille with the cut out and the window for the cut out? Do I need any additional parts to relocate the sensor or do I just reuse the existing parts? And are these the correct part numbers: PT228-35180 (grille) and 53141-35060? One thing is certain, I want OEM Totota parts, not copies. I'm not going to pay $38,000 for a truck then try to save a few dollars on copies.
If I do go for the 2018 I will be selling the "old" TRD Pro grille that I bought from a local dealerDSC_2452.jpg (see photo).

I think I'm confusing myself but I want to make sure I get this 100% correct before ordering.

If I'm putting an 18 OEM grill on an 18 OR, I need the grill and the garnish, correct?

I've seen people post that you only need the garnish if installing on a 16-17 but what about 18's, just leave the sensor exposed? Doesn't sound right.

Your 17 Pro Grille should work no problem, the boxed area is recessed for the Sensor so you just need to remove that piece from the Grille and buy the flat Garnish piece from the 18.

So I use the 2017 grille? How do I remove the piece where the sensor goes? Do I have to cut it out? I just looked at my 2017 grille, see where the sensor must go, but it looks like a job to make it work. Anybody have instructions on here?

I believe someone had a picture posted up and it was just 2 small retainers and then that little section popped off.

Looking from the front, it looks like the entire grille is molded in one piece. If/when I remove the grille I'll be able to see a bit better. But it sure doesn't look like there's a removable piece.

The 17' and 18' grill have two diff part numbers....only different by one number. The 18' grill is significantly cheaper than the 17'

    17' part # P228-35170
    18' part # P228-35180

Is the 2018 pro grille, really that much cheaper than the previous 16-17 version?

I washed my truck at the car wash yesterday then pulled it into the garage. Now that it's clean and with proper light I can see the removable piece. That's good news, I'll only need the so-called garnish if I get the 2018 (still trying to decide).

As far as the quality of the 2017 Pro grille, I never thought of it as "cheap". Yea, it's plastic, but that doesn't necessarily make it cheap. But I do think that it's the best looking grille that I've ever seen on a Tacoma.
