I have a '17 TRD Sport with the basic sound system (non-JBL) and I'm considering upgrading. The factory system is actually pretty good, but I listen to music all of the time and I like it loud. The biggest weakness of the factory system is that it just doesn't get loud enough and doesn't really sound good when cranked.

I don't know yet if I just want to add an amp, and maybe upgrade the speakers or if I'll do the whole system, head unit and all. If I do the head unit, I'll probably look at getting one that Apple CarPlay compatible.

Anyone upgrade their system yet? Suggestions?

I must be getting old, the stock system seems fine to me. I rarely turn it up past 30.

And the last thing it needs is more high end/tweeters.

I thought it sounded OK until i got into the wife's lexus... which blows it out of the water (and then i don't even consider it good) Even on low volumes, it sounds significantly better. I want to do the OEM audio plus system next year.

My Wife's Rav4 sounds much better than my Taco. Wish they put that same system in the Tacoma's. Stereo system is important to me and this one is certainly lacking. I will probably try the cheap speaker upgrade mentioned above. That sounds like it'll make enough of a difference.

You would be shocked at how those Subaru Tweeters improve the stock system.

I’m running factory upgraded JBL.. sounds damn good and doesn’t get distorted when you crank it.

I didn’t want to run a diff head unit or have to upgrade speakers at all... plus I think aftermarket headunits look stupid. Lol

^^^ do this right here. I did the tweeters, all 4 speakers and dynamat in the doors. The tweeters alone make a huge difference by themselves and this is definitely one of the most bang for the buck upgrades you can do. I was right around $200 for everything plus the leftover dynamat I already had.

I have the JBL package and have been kinda disappointed. Then I just got a new cell phone. Mine was 3 years old. I cannot even begin to describe how much louder and clearer my music is now. IDK if the BT tech was that bad then or what.

I pretty much feel the same way but decided to do the Subaru Kicker mod since it seemed cheap and easy. Noticeable sound improvement for less than $100.

When I replaced the stock speakers and felt how light and shitty they were. I literally laughed out loud.
Didnt even think it was possible to make sound come out of paper cones.

I was amazed at how light the stock speakers were too, surprised that any sound came out of them.

I used taco tunes, new speakers, two amps and woofer with box. A lot of work and I like the improvement
