Hello to all the Tacoma Users out there. Hope your ride is running Smooth.

My 2006 six(6) cylinder is running pretty rough right now. Not sure just why.

My best guess is dirty fuel injectors or bad coils. I am not sure which.

When it starts it runs rough until I press on the gas and it gets less rough,

    "almost" smooth but not quite.

When cold it will "tend" to idle smooth but after it warms up the idle starts

smooth but gets rough and even rougher quickly as the idle time gets longer.

The weather, Dry or Damp, does not seem to change the way the engine runs.

Using a lot more gas as well.

Does anybody have any experience with this kind of a condition?

Would appreciate any and all suggestions.

    Thanks to all.

Any codes being thrown? Is it worse when you start it after it has been sitting for a while? There is a known issue with head gaskets on the driver side. How many miles on the truck and on the current plugs?

Thanks for the input. That makes sense. I should have mentioned that they are about six months old. I had it tuned up back in August and it was running fine until about a month ago. I have had my mechanic look at it and he says he cannot figure it out. Yes, I know what you might be thinking but I trust him. I am thinking clogged fuel injectors or bad spark plug coils. Either is going to be expensive.
Once again, thanks for the info. If you have an idea on which I should change first or if i am thinking wrong, I would appreciate any input.

Hi DocBrown: About 165K miles. No codes thrown. Had engine cleaned, so I would see a gasket leak no problem. It gets worse as it gets hotter. Smooths out when it is moving or getting more gas at idle. As i told JaCado the plugs are 6 months old. Had a tune up in August. Mechanic did not find any gasket issues.
    Thanks for the input.

Unless you are getting gasoline from a 55 gallon drum from a 3rd world country your injectors should not be plugged. Since you say you are burning a lot more gas than normal I would be more inclined to think you have a defective O2 Sensor or a head gasket problem. It should eventually post a code to give you something to look at or you could take it and have someone connect with a scanner in the OBD2 port and look at live sensor data when it is acting up.

Thanks Chris24: Fuel cleaner seemed to help but any effect was temporary.

Thanks Jimmyh: Well, I guess clogged injectors are out of the question. Seems like ignition coils and or O2 sensor are next on the list. Thanks for the input.
P.S. I liked the 55 gal drum and 3rd world country analogy.

I had a similar problem with my 06. Then threw a code of p0430. Changed pcv valve and both a/f sensors along with both o2 sensors. Idles like it used to and mpg went back to normal. Been threw 2 tanks of fuel and no problems
