Meh.... it's not bad with the 4.88s. I shift a lot sure but I also stop half as much for fuel as some of the v6 trucks I roll with. Once it's in 4lo it's all equal but still my rtt is getting heavier cause I'm gonna go to a ruggedized. I'll probably have to do something if I start dropping to like 16 mpg cause then the long trips will just get expensive

A "ruggedized" RTT? Can you elaborate? Or do you just mean canvas instead of nylon material?

You can always put a RTT on a small trailer and leave at base camp.

The tent you linked looks pretty cool though. That setup on the Oz Tent is pretty quick too.

I have one, an rv5, it is awesome!

I could see that. First trip or with mine or stormed all night. I just made sure to use all the tie down lines and it did great.

Yeah no kidding! 30 seconds to unfold and sit the tent up (which was awesome because it was raining but calm when we got to our site) and 5-10 minutes to stake it down. Depending on the soil, i had to hammer the stakes down and then stack rocks on all of them to keep them there. Az desert dirt is terrible, basically packed down sand with rocks in it

I use 10x10 canvas tent, so I live and die by my tent stakes. After a bad experience in sand with high winds I upgraded. I found some nearly indestructible ones, forged, with machined steel point, they come in 12", 18", or even 24" length. They are 5/8" thick. I use a 3 lb. sledge to drive them. Used many times now and they are so very good. :D

    Death Valley 2018: Day 4
You Don't See This Every Day

... around 1:00am, the wind got significantly colder, and we started
to feel moisture in the air. We didn't realize it at the time as
we zipped up the remaining windows, but the moisture we were feeling was snow...

So yeah - we went to Death Valley to escape the cold, and we got snowed on.

You don't see that every day.

I have an RV-4, really like it so far. We came to the same conclusion regarding RTTs and a trailer wasn't really an option for us. The setup time is legit, but they don't include staking it out which only adds a few more minutes and isn't entirely necessary if it is calm. I've had it out in sustained 20mph winds across a lake; with it all guyed out, it didn't budge.

Did it come with a bag? I would like to get one for the helicopter so when I get caught out in northern fly camp. I can just stay there instead of staying in Darwin. The overnight parking fee and hotel is freaking expensive.

Yes, the whole tent fits in one big bag, roughly 1'x1'×8'. It fits pretty easily too considering what you are dealing with; one long zipper runs the length of the bag, just unzip, lay the tent inside, zip it up.

On a side note... helicopter...Fly camp...Holy crap, I am jealous!

You pretty much have to have a cot if your not in a tent. The snakes travel in the morning and evenings during the winter months there, they can't travel in summer cause the rock get too hot and it burns their little bellies. When it gets cool at night, they start hunting for warm spots
