I install a K&N Air Intake 3 days ago & The Taco was running like a champ the first day & then the check engine light appears and the 4-banger lost power. Would not go over 45 mph. So I decided to disconnect the terminals from the battery & boom the truck was running great again, so this morning I’m running into the same problem all over again. I need help, I rather fix this myself before I take it to a dealer. Any ideas?

Put the stock filter back in, then install the K&N in the garbage can.

My 99 Taco been running with one since day one without a problem. 265k miles later still going strong. I think technology is the problem. All this dang gadgets around the new vehicles.

There are only two reasons to buy one imho sound and because it looks cool. Neither are good reasons.

There are no proven performance gains in Tacomas as far as I know.

The downside is they may eff up your truck.

    Snake oil

Because it’s snake oil. Don’t ask a question then get mad when you don’t like the answer.

My truck never goes pass 3/4 of the tank. I keep it full most of the time.

I don’t think I’m trying to be cool at my age. I’m all about saving $. The K&N Air Intake never been a problem in my 99 Taco. Is actually the only modification I done to it. The rest is all stock...

could be a faulty MAF sensor, or a fouled up MAF sensor due to KN filter.

In the old days, an air cleaner could actually benefit. Now? Not really, because, as you said, technology.

Look, trucks have "grown" since the '80's and 90's. They have gotten bigger and heavier. Some of that is because customers wanted more stuff, some of that (a lot of that) is safety. In addition, there are a lot of changes for pollution, although they have not made the truck get bigger.
Anyway, that additional growth and tech added is why adding an air cleaner does not help anymore. Engineers have these things so tuned up that, in your case, adding something different just does not help, unless you are at wide open throttle all the time.

You posted a pic of a short trip mpg. Good for you. I can guarantee that if you ran 10K miles with your air cleaner and 10K miles without and compared the mpg, they would be really close and probably the OEM setup would win because you won't be adding throttle to hear that sound aftermarket air cleaners give.

He just filled up. He probably was rolling down the hill the gas station was on and took that pic. Let’s see the tank average when he’s on E

What was that, 30 miles on that tank? In that case, I'll raise that with this on my stock intake.

    15 miles. All downhill.
