That same issue seems to pop up on these Trucks too, but hopefully they have a handle on the issue by now.

I do not believe that to be the case at all, Toyota has been swapping out rears on peoples Trucks, plus how in the heck can it be claimed as "normal" if some truck do it and others do not, definitely not something right back there and hopefully they figure it out.

    all tore up already
You're going to be bummed to know the high pressure fuel pump chirp is a common complaint on the taco too. But ya know, its "normal"

No I actually used to sell Toyota's and then moved to service writing after that. I've seen multiple complaints on the newer Hyundai's we used to sell however Toyota's rarely ever had major issues that I saw. I also rarely see Toyota's in the shop I'm in now. I wanted a truck but after seeing countless Ford, Chevy, and Dodge trucks in the shop for major suspension overhauls I decided to go Toyota.

probably swapped out the rears to keep the customers happy, this was early on with the 2016 TRD offroad Auto if im not mistaken(maybe others?) but at a certain point from what I recall Toyota had a few third members in question removed and examined for proper operation and tolerances and they came back as within spec, since this time they wont replace the diffs 3rd member anymore, my facts could be wrong but this is what I came to understand following this issue.

Timing cover leak was an issue on the old 4L too. My FJ had it, repaired it and eventually started seeping again.

I️ just had the same timing case leak with mine at 33,00! Also wondering if anyone else has had problems with their transfer case? Mine was squeaking and I️ brought it it they replaced it! Thinking of selling and getting a 2018? Do they have the same problems?

Disclosure: I'm actually quite happy with my 3rd Gen.

One more for this issue though. Was underneath doing an oil change and saw this accumulating on the bottom of the power steering pump. Took it into the dealer today to have a look and they said the same thing - leaking timing cover gasket and will need to do a lot of dissassembly in order to replace.

Keep an eye out for something like this to see if anybody else's trucks are having this problem.

I just bought my taco a week ago and I'm coming across this same issue. I took it into the dealer today and they said it's a 16 hour job to fix instead of the 8 hour job on older tacomas. All he could tell me is that it's a problem with the seal or gasket on the timing cover and that it will be a couple days before I can get my truck back.

I have the same pic as bryanjoh and also a pic of the front of the power steering flywheel. There's a ton of black gunk at the front of the timing case from dirt accumulating on the wet areas and you can't see it unless you are really looking for it.

Dropping my 2016 Sport off for this exact issue on Thursday. Curious to see what BS they try to feed me this time...

Make sure you ask them to clean the timing cover, especially if it looks like mine in the above picture. I asked too late and all I got was a standard "they sprayed solvent on it, sure it's clean" but it's really not clean.

So I went in to get my leak fixed. The tech provided a bunch of pictures of the process. Looks like an enormous job to replace a minor oil leak.

There's definitely a part of me that worries this disassembly/reassembly could cause more problems than it solves... but I suppose we are supposed to trust the professionals.

Think when they work on a Camry they put everything in the trunk and on the trunk lid?

I got the 10yr extended drivetrain warranty, that electronic rust protection, and bed mat thrown in after 4hrs of dickering the price down from 38k+ down to 32.6k out the door. So I should be good for 10 yrs or 100k mi....I only put on about 8k/yr...
But all the complaints I see, just drive by everyother car make dealer service and they all are packed with new vehicles in for something every day. We are not alone!!! I'll just keep a list of everything that others are having problems with and watch mine, then take it in, so long as I don't have to pay for it! Otherwise I'll fix it myself if I can.....

    WOW!
That is way too much disturbance for a simple timing cover that shouldn't leak in the first place.

Sorry to say it cause I do like the way my truck performs and so far its great, but were this to happen to me, it be traded.
I would not want any future problems that are likely to crop up as a result of all that disassembly

That is dumb, who would want to deal with that expense at 130k??
I could see replacing a cover that requires 4-6 labor hr at a shop on an old truck, but this much work on one makes no sense to me and it turns it vehicle into a throwaway, not a keeper.

    Shame,

Sounds like a screaming deal, you had to get more than 10k off the price to end up at $32.6 after taxes and fees.
