I'm looking to see if there is any interest in locking rear compartment cover for the 2nd gen and 3rd gen trucks. I've worked on a model and have a prototype that I've made. I just need to pick a material and refine the design a little more. I was thinking I could probably make a set for about $65 depending on the material. Is any one interested? I've looked around on the google machine and found one company making them for about $150 a set and another place makes a safe looking thing for the large compartment but other than that people have been modding their door with cabinet locks. I attached a picture of the small compartment. I had PVC laying around and it's easy to machine. I'll be choosing something similar to what is already in the bed for the final version. Let me know what you think.
I like the combo since I like to lock my keys in the bed when I go for a run or bike that way I don't need to carry keys.
I do not have any of these available yet, I'm just gauging interest.

@Mobtown Offroad offers them in steel, but they are keyed.

So final version will be made of “Something similar to what’s in the bed” as in plastic?

What’s the point of machining them in plastic and then putting locks? Could just take a screwdriver/prybar and yank them off.

They’d need to be metal to add any sort of actual security.

Thanks for the input. The CPVC ones I've made so far I don't think can be broken into with a screw driver. I'll consider this point though when choosing the final material.

Metal construction with a recessed combo lock and you have a winner.

I like the idea of no key, and would be interested in seeing where this goes.

Make it so you can mount an actuator behind it, and some from of push n pop latch. That will save me having to make something. I have no desire for extra keys, so all other current options are out, and while I prefer a keypad tumbler over keys, it’s longevity in the elements have me concerned.
Have them connected to the central locking and you have a winner. I also agree that a well chosen plastic is far better than steel in this situation and no less secure since the surround and bed are plastic as well. Hell the whole box is screwed in, how secure do we really think this is to warrent steel? Ultimately you don’t want to advertise there is anything on value in there, and a lock clearly makes it more desirable for you average thief.

I like the idea of a combo lock. It's the most simple way and one wouldn't need to carry extra keys.

What if you added a locking cap over the combo lock to conceal it? Push the cap over and twist 90 degrees to give the feel and appearance that it's just a knob.
