Hey gents and gals if that’s what you prefer, I’m new to the Tacoma scene and I was just wondering if y’all can help me out on getting a great, affordable lift kit set up for the average off road weekend warrior, if you know what I’m saying. I won’t be off reading much, so not too hard core on the off road, but just the basic mudding/sanding type, seeing as I live in Hawaii. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    Welcome to TW!

Plenty of options, let’s try and narrow it down:

How much are you looking to spend?
Rock crawling OR high speed stuff on sand, dunes, mud, etc

OME, Bilstein 5100 are good entry level suspension kits.

If you're doing high speed stuff and willing to spend more coin, I'd look at something with larger diameters and/or reservoirs. The next step up from those are OME BP51s, Icons, Kings, Fox and ADS.

I 2nd what @rlx02 suggested. 3 brands that come to mind: Kings, Fox, Icon (Kings are best).

This is the only full kit I see with your price range

Do it right the first time. Don’t rush. Get Kings

Tax return sales are right around the corner. Keep an eye out.

Bold, and untrue statement.... Perhaps a matter of your personal opinion..... But untrue

Nevertheless, OP, if you're doing high speed desert stuff, you will quickly find the limits of the 5100/OME type setups. Save a little, keep an eye on sales and invest in something that will better suit your needs.

Wouldn't the Bilstein 6112/5160 be a step up from the 5100s? That would be a good in between option between the 5100s and the expensive stuff.

Not that I'm an expert, but after looking and looking and reading, I've about decided that while Icons, Kings, and Fox are a better all around set up, they also require more maintenance. For me, something like the 6112/5160 would be a great option with more performance than the 5100, but still more of a DD type setup that doesn't need to be overhauled at 40K miles.

I still haven't decided that I need much more performance than 5100s though.

Lol. I don’t claim to know much about lifts, but I found this comment funny.

Yeah, definitely an upgrade. Bigger shock body, rear reservoirs and there's a tuned version of them for the 2015 TRD Pro. I DD my truck and I have Icons. I do maybe 90% street. Go wheeling every once in a while and I've found Icons to be a good fit for me since they're much firmer than stock TRD OR shocks without being harsh. Since I got the non reservoir ones, there should be less things to break or go bad and should last me quite a while before I need a rebuild since I'm not out flying through the desert.
