    Hey TW,

I am hoping that some of you have some insight on what could be going on with my truck.

I have a 2009 Sport pre-runner with 196k miles. It has a 3in Toytec spacer in the front and a 1.5 in block in the back. I had some 265/75/17 BFG All-Terrains on it for about 55k miles. When they started to wear down they became louder as most tires do, so I just recently put the new BFGs on in the same size. With the new tires I was still hearing a low pitched growl from about 25 mph to 50 mph increasing when turned to the right. I took the truck to a local shop and got both front bearings replaced. When I got the truck back I was still getting the same noise. I took it back to the shop. This time they replaced the passenger side rear bearing and they redid the driver front bearing. This helped the noise for a while but never went away completely. I just took the truck on about a 400 mile road trip and the noise came back louder than before. I returned it the same shop and they replaced both front hubs. They are now telling me they are still hearing this growling noise but, they are saying now that it is the rear diff, but are also saying that the noise goes away when turning the truck.

Is it possible that this is the differential? Could they have incorrectly installed a bearing three times? Is there anything else I should check? I have search the forum up and down and haven’t found much for a 2wd. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Depending who built the front hubs they could very well have done them wrong if they didn't press them together the right way. A rear pinion bearing you would here a huming/growl coming from the rear of the truck.if the noise goes away when turning then I would say it's the front hubs. Also check the rear wheel bearing that wasn't replaced.
