Could be, but I'm happy with my 3rd Gen!

This thread is destined for glory, but I’ll play along with my elementary school ways.
    1st is the worst :bananadead:
    2nd is the best ;)
    3rd is the nerd :cookiemonster:

    In real life standards though,
    1st is reliable as fuck
    2nd is reliable as fuck
3rd needs some more testing before we can make any conclusive statements on its longevity in the market.

While the 1st gen is the best gen 2nd and 3rd gens are super awesome.

It should be an honor to be 2nd and 3rd behind the 1st gen Tacoma.

Well this is gonna get interesting

I mean the 1st gens had that whole frame rot issue. So did the 2nd gens up till like 2010.

    * may my 2000 single cab Rest In Peace

The jury is still out on the 3rd gen, a buddy of mine just bought a 17 6-speed manual. So far so good. The creature comforts in his is leaps and bounds above the previous gens

If you don't have a first gen, don't come in here with your "but but but...." nonsense. Let go of the thread title and watch the video. Your fancy high dollar trucks don't qualify.

Agreed, I've owned both 1st and 2nd Gens and would gladly choose a 1st Gen any day of the week. They were more of a utilitarian type truck with none of the stupid shit that is coming on the new Tacomas. I imagine at some point you won't be able to tell the difference between a Tacoma and the Ridgeline because of all the fluff.

So keep on bitching how you need a powered glove box door, heated cup holders,
Leather bedliner with leather trimed tailgate, and other useless shit that doesn't belong on a truck.

Owned 1st (12 years) and 3rd. Reliability 1st Gen easily. But then I had manual locks and windows. Resale on my 1st Gen was outstanding. Looks and coolness factor 1st gen wins. Steel bed on 1st gen wins vs plastic 3rd Gen bed. Performance, comfort, mpg, and safety, advantage 3rd gen. I was never interested in the 2nd Gen.

Depends on what you're using it for. As an offroad toy, the '99 TRD 5 speed I had was head and shoulders above the 2nd gen that replaced it. For putzing around town they were probably on an even playing field. The 1st gen was easier to park/navigate tight parking lots, but the 2nd gen had it beat for stoplight-to-stoplight traffic pacing. But for highway travel the 2nd gen was MUCH more comfortable, and quieter. It also could tow more and handled a load in the bed better (it still sucked, but not as bad as the 1st gen). And the 4.0 had a LOT more sack than the 3.4 when it came time to pass somebody on a twisty back road. I skipped out on the 3rd gen completely (for now) because I wasn't impressed with the transmission or the power output from the new motor, so I can't offer any extensive driving experience with it. On my test drives it felt faster than the 2nd gen once you got it up into the power band, but I felt like towing with it would suck because of the torque curve.
