That Kenwood supports both Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Both will allow to you to send and receive messages by voice.

Correct, it utilizes Siri from the CarPlay side for text messages. I am not sure about email, but reading and relying to text messages work great.

I went with the Kenwood DMX694. Works great, having had CarPlay before, the etune system seemed sub par. I added the optional DRV-520 dash cam. Great set up so far. Did it myself following the Maestro instructions. Hardest part was getting the dash apart.

How do you like the dash cam? I am on the fence about getting one. Do you have both front and rear facing cameras? Does it detect vibration and turn on when parked?

Kenwood has the best Maestro support out of any head unit available. They have the Maestro port and full data on most of their double din units. Pioneer is limited on models, which is a bummer because I prefer Pioneer.

I have the front facing dash cam. I like the fact I can interface and review the recordings on the head unit. The dash cam is fine with vibration, and has sensitivity settings for the parking features.

I have the same question about head unit but I have the crappy base model touch screen with no Nav but it does have backup camera and Bluetooth. I like the Ken wood but would it be compatible with my car? I don’t think I have entune but I’m not sure. Also what is maestro? A quick internet search didn’t clear it up for me. Do I need It to run that Ken wood pictured above?

Can you add a rear dash cam and interface on the HU also?

There is a spare AV port available on Kenwood I have. I think it could be used as monitor but not a DVR.

Damn, if the kenwood was able to do forward and rear and review everything on the HU, I wouldn't get a different brand dash cam. But I really want to be able to record behind me also. I'll probably go with a thinkware then.

I will be doing an upgrade in the very near future.... Only thing that I am on the fence about is Android Auto OR a full Android Head Unit.

Have you guys seen these? Its like a full blown tablet in your dash.

Here is one I am considering.... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074M69Q4N/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I18PFP28W30Q4R&colid=3B7EO3X7NUMU3&psc=0

I am just not sure if I am going to have any issues keeping all the factory stuff using this (settings, steering wheel, oem rear cam, oem usb port, etc)

I know the kenwoods and others integrate well but these chinese ones have caught my eye (incredible amount of customization possible without having to connect your phone...)

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
This looks very nice. Would like one that connects bluetooth, USB is so 2015 ;-) I'll have to shop around for a headunit that looks & does what I want, then I think I know another item that's going on my never-ending mod pile!

They are way too buggy. Installed one in my wife's 2016 Outlander, and it was horrible. While I'll admit it was a different branding (same unit, look up EONON/Pumpkin/Joying - all Hui Fei) it was running Android 5.1, and I only got it partially usable by updating to a new OS from a xda-developers modder. Stay away, unless they have increased in quality and usability in the last year or two.
