    From here on out, it's been clear,

    OP DID NOT SHIFT TO 4L. He moved the knob to 4L, but it didn't shift... because as we should all know clearly by now, you have to BE STOPPED, FULLY STOPPED and in NEUTRAL to actually shift in to 4L.
