So, yesterday I traded in my '16 TRDOR to an '18TRDOR 4 runner. Even though I really loved that truck, it no longer suited my needs. I'm not going to say the new 4runner is a better vehicle because I never really had any complaints about my truck. Sure the Tranny liked to gear hunt, but it never really bothered me. However, in the process of buying my new 4runner, I also purchased my fathers 1982 Tacoma (Not actually a tacoma, technically just the toyota pick up) which means I still get to lurk here! Pics coming soon though, and I just wanted to thank TW for all the great info and support throughout the years!

I've used that old taco for coyote hunting for many years. It is truly the only vehicle I can say that I've never gotten stuck with it. Just can't beat those old 22R's and a solid Axel

So how does the 4 runner drive and handle compared to the tacoma? Wife wants a runner for her next ride.

The 4Runner, with coils in the back, more even weight distribution, has a pretty compliant ride. Overall, both on and off road, I do prefer the ride in the 4Runner. But Tacoma isn't bad. With a topper in the back, the ride quality is pretty similar.

Obligatory pic...had to get it dirty first hehehe. I do like the transmission a little better on the low end, but I still think the Taco feels like it had more power overall, particularly when you climb into high RPMs. The T4R is definitely quieter though. Still, one is a truck and the other is a SUV. Taco felt more playful when you mash the gas, T4R more civilized and predictable.

This is all semantics however. Every user will have a different opinion. Mainly I need more of a SUV. Still have the older Taco and an older Powerstroke for towing/hauling. Like I said. Lifestyles change. Tacos are still awesome!

I had a '16 SR5 for a month. There's a little more pick-up from 0-40mph, but everything after that it falls flat. Tacoma pulls much harder then.

Suspension is super squishy. If you don't have KDSS, it has a lot of body roll, dip and dive. More so than a TRD-OR because the 4runner is top heavy.

Interior is dated, big chunky and feels older than 2010, especially with all that faux silver. On the plus side, the seats felt more comfortable and roomier inside. It even had a funny option on the information section in the dash to tell you where the wheels were pointing lol.

All in all, a good, reliable ride as they're still made in japan. But definitely outdated; feels more like a 2012 car than 2018.

Nice 4runner, hope it serves you and the family well.

Now you gotta dig up a pic of that cool little pickup, those things are tough rigs!
