3rd Gen Magnetic Gray Thread

Here is the before and after measurement.

 

Question, actually two questions for the grey group:
1. Has anyone put the 5th gen 4Runner 2017 SR5 wheels on a grey? I'm buying some take offs this week. Just want to make it a bit old school.
2. Has anyone taken the silver bedside decal off and replaced it with the light colered truck OEM black and red one? I would like a bit of red on the truck.

I see your measurements and notice a flaw in your comparison. While it's true your truck sits higher by 3.5" according to your tape measure. You have larger tires on the truck though. My point is do you know how much lift you got from JUST the lift not counting the extra the tires added?? And I've been told by several on here to measure from the center of the hub to the fender, not from the ground....

 

No I do not. I waited to do the lift because I didn’t want the stock set up. i hope you find what your looking for.

 

I wasn't hammering ya man. Just saying that the measurement you show is not all due to the lift. Your setup looks really good, btw. I can't afford tires right now so gonna have to run the stock Goodyears that come on the Off Roads for now. Take care!

Loving my MGM after two years and 37k miles. Here she is at a recent TW meet up in SoCal desert East of San Diego...

 

I have 5100s all around. However, rather than pre-load the coils, which creates a harsher ride, I switched out the colis to OME 2888. I also replaced the stock Upper Control Arms with Total Chaos UCAs, which allows for more adjustment with the alignment. This gave me slightly over 2.5" of lift in the front. I replaced the rear leaf springs with OME Dakar leaf springs. This gave about 2.5" of rear lift even with the added weight of SnugTop cap and gear. The ride is a nice improvement over stock and I am enjoying the added clearance and performance. That is me in the post just before this ^^^

 

I used engine enamel/ceramic paint. I painted it last weekend and then had to run out of town for work. I should have it installed on Saturday. I'll definitely post after photos.

Looks like a twin to mine! The more I see the stock grills painted/dipped/or whatever folks have done to them, the more I wish I'd done that rather than spend the money on the Pro grill. I still have my old chrome one. I may try some MGM paint and leave the emblem chrome and see what that looks like! BTW, what mods are you planning??

And I wish I had the pro grille, but this will do for now. Nothing for now. Maybe after I sell my neglected jeep thats been driven a handful of times since I got the Tacoma, I'll start thinking about mods. Definitely tires and lift but nothing crazy as of now.. lets see how long that lasts.

 

Well, I told ya in an earlier post that I ordered a Rough Country 2" leveling kit the other day. I also told ya that after seeing and reading all the posts on here and seeing pics of y'all's trucks that I was gonna send it back and go with the 5100s instead. Well, that R/C leveling kit arrived today and I was off AND it only cost like $50 thru Rough Country's site so I decided to put it on and see how it looked. Long story short, the truck looks amazing. Actually gave me just over 2" of lift. And before y'all start the hating, this 'spacer' lift is not designed like the others everyone has been bashing. It works exactly like a wheel spacer. You simply take the coil/strut out. install the spacer to the top of it, then re-install the coil/strut. You do not take the strut apart. it simply mounts on top of it. The strut doesn't pre-loaded like the spacers where the strut must be taken apart, so the ride remains exactly like it was before the install. I live in Southern Illinois and don't plan on jumping sand dunes and exploring washed-out canyon roads like you folks out west. The truck is my daily driver. I will for sure use it to get to my deer stand and down some country roads and such, but not any serious crawling type situations. I will include a pic of the lift installed, and a before and after pic of my Tacoma. I DO haul some heavier equipment and tow with my truck on occasion, so I plan on a 1-1.5" block to go in the rear to raise the back end back up a little. I don't want it to ride nose-high when loaded or with trailer tongue weight. Now let the bashing begin.....lol

 

Actually, this grill came from ebay and was like $150. I can't tell it's not the $400 one though. It just seems like everybody is installing these grills. Kinda the same reason I don't like the black aftermarket wheels...everybody is doing it, lol.
