Access Cab Storage Organization

Hi!

Random question, do you know what the cover is called on the OEM rear storage? I own a 2017, and the cover to the storage is ridged, and I want mine to be flat like yours.

Thanks for the nice write up, and I've had an umbrella in that same useful storage spot since new in early '16.

 

I just ordered a couple of those Dewalt tool boxes for my 2017 Access cab. I do a lot of hunting in the fall and they will make good ammo and hunting accessory storage while making an overall flatter surface for my cased shotguns. I appreciate your idea! About the jump seats, I thought I'd never use them myself, but just yesterday I gave a dad, his young son, and the grandma a lift at a state park. They just needed a ride to a parking area a mile or so down the road and those little jump seats stepped up and did the job!

I found this post a few months ago and finally decided to go ahead and do the same. I shamelessly copied everything. The safe is mounted with lag bolts through the chassis. I ordered the same tool boxes and used 1/2 mid-grade plywood. I got 18 linear feet (using rest for another project) of industrial grade carpet from Lowes for $.50 a foot and 1 can of locktite adhesive spray. Total cost not including the boxes or safe was right at $55. First cut the plywood to 51x22 and then rounded the front corners. Then I marked and cut the notch for the center console. I traced marked the carpet with the board and then put a layer of adhesive on the carpet and the top of the board. Put board onto the carpet and then spent a few hours getting the carpet to go over the notch and corners. By far the hardest part. once that was done I finished put carpet over the rest of the bottom. Once that was done I cut out another piece of carpet and covered the back again to give it a nicer clean look. I also used staples on the back while stretching the carpet over the edges. I used screws and grommets the coverup carpet on the bottom because I ran out of damn staples. Total time spent was about 4 hours. The safe was fairly simple to mount but that and the carpet are both 2 man jobs (at least for me they were). I am very happy with the results and I want to thank you for posting this, since I never would have thought of this on my own. Pics following.

That looks great! I've got the tool boxes and plan on doing something similar with wood and carpet when it warms up here.

 

I have the boxes with just some sample carpet squares covering them but after seeing the job dodger6988 did I'm inspired to copy this design as well. Very nice job dodger and thanks for sharing.

I removed my rear seats, since no one sits back there anymore. I installed @docloco molle panel. I plan on adding a platform there, but currently stuff is just flying around.

I have a 2010, but I traded the under seat covers with someone with a 2005, so they go all the way across (where the center console would have been)

 

Its nice to have that center hole covered! In my case I cut a sheat of steel the right size to cover it, painted black and put it there with velcro lol do the job for now and it is removable

Finally got around to finishing up with mine. Turns out a trackmat fit width wise perfectly. Just need a little bit of a trim to work around the center console.

 

For those using the Dewalt boxes, can the front seats be slid all the way back?

 

I’m not 100% on all the way back but I’m fairly certain you can. On my picture the seat is where I drive at and you can see there is still a decent bit of room before there’s any chance of running into the toolbox.

 

I just used two pieces of 2x12's in the front which allows for complete hidden storage underneath. Seems to me the tool boxes would be a little bit of a pain to get stuff in or out.
